Ferrum, VA
-- The Pacer Softball team defeated Ohio Northern 5-4
today in the opening round of the Ferrum College Softball
Tournament. The win brings Peace to 13-4 overall with
conference action beginning next week. The Polar Bears
moved to 7-4 this season.
Junior pitcher Stephanie Monette (Conway,
SC/Newberry College) earned another win in the circle
(8-1). Monette allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs in the
win, as well as 4 walks and 4 strikouts. Sophomore Ashley
Stansbury (Rougemont, NC/Northern Durham) entered in
relief in the final inning to earn her first save of
the season. Stansbury added 1 hit and 1 RBI as the designated
player in the first.
In the bottom of the fifth inning
and Peace down 3-1, senior first baseman Holly Braswell
(Raleigh, NC/Garner) doubled to score senior Joanie
Blevins (Thurmond, NC/East Wilkes). Blevins advanced
to first on a walk. Senior outfielder Kenni Seagroves
(Apex, NC/Apex) singled up the middle to score first-year
Bre Hinnant (Manteo, NC/Manteo). Hinnant entered as
a pinch runner for Braswell. Tied at 3-all, junior Tiffany
DeLeone (Clinton, NC/Louisburg College) put the Pacers
ahead for good with a two-run homer. DeLeone scored
Seagroves to earn a team-high 2 RBIs in the win.
The Pacers' second game of the day
versus Methodist University was postponed till Sunday
due to rain. Peace will meet Eastern Mennonite as well.
