Peace Softball Picked to Finish Second in League
Fayetteville, NC -- The USA South Conference office announced the 2010 women's softball preseason coaches poll today, and the Pacers earned the second spot on the list with 62 points. This marks the highest preseason ranking in college history.
The Captains of Christopher Newport University, reigning league champs, earned the top pick with nine first-place votes for a total of 81 points. Peace finished the 2009 regular season 9-8, good for fourth place, and went 1-2 in the conference tournament.
With senior pitching ace Ashley Stansbury and third base standout Courtney Long, the Pacers come to the plate ready to compete this season. Junior shortstop Morgan Weathington and the twin heavy hitters, Kasie and Lindsey Moore, add to the team's strength under eleventh-year Head Coach Charlie Dobbins.
Six sophomore returners with as many newcomers add the necessary depth to give Peace a chance at success. The team opens the spring season hosting Shaw University on Valentine's Day at Wachovia Athletic Park. The double header is slated to begin at 1:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
