Cougars Cruise Past Pacers in League Action
Danville, VA - Averett University (4-3, 1-1 USAS) outscored Peace (3-5, 0-3 USAS) 13-2 in the final eight minutes of the first half to take a nine-point lead into the break. The hosts maintained control to seal the 48-35 USA South win.
The Pacers cut the Cougar lead to five on jumpers from leading scorers LeAnne Horne and Karissa Herring. But the AU offense pushed their lead to 18 with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. Peace scored the next three buckets to cut the lead to 12 but ran out of time.
Horne topped the Pacers with 12 points and six steals. Herring added nine points and nine rebounds. First-year Angel Fuller tallied nine rebounds in the loss.
Averett's Ashley Washington notched a double-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds. Teammate Kristyn Wharton added nine rebounds and five points.
Peace travels to Greensboro College Monday to face The Pride before returning to the Hermann Center Thursday for a USA South game against the Monarchs of Methodist. Both games are slated for 7:00 pm. Listen live to the Pacer broadcast. See you on the sidelines!
