Pacers Take Angels

Raleigh, NC -- The Peace College (5-7, 2-5 USAS) basketball team rallied in the second half to upset cross-town rival Meredith College (4-7, 3-3 USAS) 76-72 in today's USA South pairing.  Sophomore Pacer Karissa Herring recorded a career-high 33 points and added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.

The Avenging Angels lead by as many as 10 points at the 10-minute mark and maintained that control the entire first half.  The visitors entered the locker room up by five at the intermission with momentum on their side.

After the break Peace began to chip away at Meredith's lead.  Herring pushed the Pacers on top with her second three-pointer of the game with just under 15 minutes remaining.  She was assisted by Brenna Mickey on the play.

The Angels Megan Rahn hit a jumper on a pass from teammate Kaela Bellefeuil to give her team the lead for the last time at 11:45.  Senior Pacer LeAnne Horne hit a three off another pass from Mickey to give Peace the lead for good.

First-year Angel Fuller grabbed 7of her 10 second-half rebounds in the final 11 minutes of play to give Peace more offensive opportunities.  Fuller's effort combined with Herring's drive helped the Pacers in the final minutes of play.  Key minutes from first-year Mia Sloan helped Peace maintain defensive pressure as the clock rolled down.

Horne finished with 13 points, four assists, and two steals.  Fuller notched 14 rebounds, adding four points.  Mickey grabbed five rebounds and added seven points for Peace.

Meredith's Brittany Cornelius led her team with 22 points, adding eight rebounds.  Rahn picked up a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Pacers travel Wednesday evening to Winston-Salem for a non-league game with Salem College.  The team stays on the road next weekend with league games versus Shenandoah and Mary Baldwin.  Peace returns to the Hermann Student Center Wednesday, January 27, to host North Carolina Wesleyan at 7:00 pm.  See you on the sidelines!
