Lions Cruise Past Pacers
Raleigh, NC-The Peace College soccer squad lost today's final non-league match of the season 7-1 to the visiting Lions of Piedmont College. The visitors improved to 7-2 and the Pacers continued their early streak with the loss.
The Lions controlled much of the first period out shooting their opponents 16-7. The team went into the break with a 3-0 lead. Katie Porter scored a quick goal in the first eight minutes of the match, assisted by Casey Lovelady, followed by one at 30 assisted by Brielle Cobb. Macie Rooke netted one for her team assisted by Porter.
Peace picked up the offensive pressure in period two, including nine shots at the goal. Haley Bright (Snow Hill, NC) earned the Pacer goal with a sweet kick to the top left corner of the net. Teammate Mary Caitlin Smith (Lumberton, NC) set Bright up for her shot to earn the assist.
Defender Courtney Butler (Lewisville, NC) led her team from the backfield and played hard to help goalie Sherry Revels (Apex, NC) protect the Pacer net. Karissa Herring (Seven Springs, NC) and Jeanna Buck (Washington, NC) created opportunities for Melissa Moran (Raleigh, NC) and Bright to attack the defense.
Lions Casey Lovelady, Alex Bylo, Porter, and Cobb each scored an additional goal for their team in the second half. Lovelady earned her second assist with Porter.
Peace hosts a two-game home series next weekend beginning with Mary Baldwin Saturday, October 3. First kick is slated for 1:00 pm at the Meredith Athletic Park. The Pacers host the Hornets of Shenandoah University at Noon Sunday back at WakeMed Soccer Park's field four. See you on the sidelines!
