Tied 1-1 at the Half, Cougars Pull Away to Win
Danville, VA-The Peace College soccer squad dropped a tough 3-1 loss to Averett University today in Danville. The Pacers dropped their third straight in the USA South to drop to 1-3 (1-10 overall). The win moved the Cougars to 2-4 in conference play, 5-7 overall.
Averett's Claire Armstrong opened the scoring on a header in the third minute of play on a corner kick from Ringa Remes. Peace's Haley Bright (Snow Hill, NC) scored her seventh goal of the season 15 minutes later to tie the score for the half.
The Cougars broke the tie at 68:06 on a goal from Kaitlin Robinson, on a rebound from teammate Hillary Wood's saved shot. The hosts would score once more just before the close of the match to seal the win.
Peace had 16 shots to Averett's 34. Seniors Harlonda Smith (Huntersville, NC) and Bright combined for 9 shots and Melissa Moran (Raleigh, NC) recorded four shots as well. Sherry Revels (Apex, NC) notched 13 saves in the loss.
The Pacers return to Raleigh next weekend for a two-date home series starting with North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday at 2:00 pm at WakeMed Soccer Park's field two. The team hosts Christopher Newport on the same field at 2:00 pm Sunday. Head Coach McEleney and her team will celebrate the six seniors before the first kick Sunday. See you on the sidelines!
