Pacer Duo Competes in Fall Tennis Invitational

Fayetteville, NC-Two of the Pacer tennis players competed in the Methodist Invitational this weekend under the direction of new Head Coach Kathy Jacobs.  The tournament featured three flights of singles and doubles competition.  Returning sophomore Kristen Starnes (Raleigh, NC) and first-time teammate sophomore Laura Beth Price (Rose Hill, NC) competed in Flight B in both singles and doubles.

Starnes opened with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to NC Central's Maria Monica Medina.  That loss paired her up with the USA South's NC Wesleyan's Hanna Heitanen.  Heitanen took the match 8-5.  Starnes completed her singles play with an 8-3 loss to Guilford's Liz Killion.

In her first collegiate competition, Price opened with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Meredith's Alison Flanagan.  The loss paired her with Tori Jones from Wesleyan.  Jones took the close match 9-7.  The Avenging Angels' Mollie Musgrave defeated Price 8-2 in her final singles bracket Sunday morning.

The Peace duo was positioned with a bye in the opening round Saturday afternoon, which led to their first doubles play versus Central's Tatiana Velasquez/Medina.  Velasquez won the Flight B singles tournament.  The Eagles took the match 8-5 and lost in the semifinals to Methodist.

Price/Starnes challenged Meredith Sunday afternoon but lost 8-3 for a fourth place tournament finish.

Join Peace at the Ragland Tennis Courts in February 2010 for their home opener versus Salem College.  See you on the sidelines!
