Peace Drops Two in League Quad

Ferrum, VA-Peace (4-8, 0-3 USAS) dropped two league matches in today's USA South quad-match at Ferrum College (8-5, 3-0 USAS).  The team opened with a 3-1 loss to the Panthers followed by a 3-0 sweep from last year's conference champs Christopher Newport (9-3, 2-0 USAS).

Ferrum opened the day with a 6-0 set-one lead against the Pacers.  Peace battled but could not dig out of the hole, and the Panthers won 25-21.  The teams were tied on seven occasions in set two before a six-point service run from Megan Melchiorre (Durham, NC) and help from her teammates sealed the win to even the match 1-1.

The hosts regrouped in the third to take an early 8-3 lead.  Peace battled and scored 10 of the next 11 points to regain control 13-9.  The teams alternated points but Peace remained atop the scoreboard 22-19.  Unfortunately, Ferrum sealed the 25-23 win on three kills combined with three Pacer errors.

The opponents were tied at 15 in set four before Ferrum's Rachel Shumaker gave her team the lead and eventual match win on an eight-point service run.

Peace opened their second match versus the Captains of CNU with an 11-7 advantage.  Christopher Newport fought back to take a one point lead at 13-12.  The teams were tied on four more occasions but CNU took a 1-0 match lead on two kills from Bailey Jensen.

Sets two and three, with scores of 25-18 and 25-20, played out similar to the first with a Captains' advantage in the final plays to complete the tough 3-0 win.

Lexi Parker (Weaverville, NC) led Peace with 19 kills hitting .361 on the day.  Outside hitter Amber Lowe (Cedar Grove, NC) led with 29 digs, adding 17 kills.  Olivia Griffin (High Point, NC) earned 50 assists overall.

The Pacers host Greensboro College Tuesday night at the Hermann Center at 7:00 pm as part of a three date home series.   Friday's non-league match versus DII Elizabeth City State begins at 6:00 pm, and then Peace hosts the USA South's Mary Baldwin and Methodist in a tri-match on Saturday beginning at Noon.  See you on the sidelines!
